Jakob The Liar – ‘Wake Up Mr. Kupferberg’ EP

Impressing across an array of passionate rock and effervescent pop soaring, Wake Up Mr. Kupferberg is the new EP from Jakob The Liar, the project of Jakob Kupferberg. The release precedes the London-based artist’s upcoming LP, The Great Awakening. Consistently melodic productions combines with a contemplative thematic pursuit, centered around Kupferberg’s experiences regarding “survival and self-awareness in a society that ignores suffering and salutes success.”

The opening title track intrigues with prancing piano, textural simmering, and a poetic spoken-word immersion. “I was digging for my future, in a cemetery of broken dreams,” they let out, building with cinematic introspection. “Sunchild” ensues and succeeds in a different aesthetical realm entirely — fluttering and caressing in its “you’re reborn into the light” hooky realizations, and achieving a radiant pop balladry following the opener’s brooding late-night mystique.

“Vi@gr@ Falls & P!$$ Graffiti” continues the impressive run of tracks, centering around an ardent title-touting declaration that’s bolstered by twangy guitar stylishness and vigor-full rock entrancement. “H E A R T B E A T” then enamors with the lusher pop realms, apparent on “Sunchild” and also the fully smitten “A Song Like You,” where lyrical accounts of love blend with twinkling keys and pop/rock cohesion. The EP consistently impresses in its dynamic range, from industrial-touched rock ardor to sentimental pop affections.
